Directions from the park service
From Boston take I-95 north to Augusta, Maine, then Route 3 east to Ellsworth, and on to Mount Desert Island. For an alternate route, continue on I-95 north to Bangor, Maine, then take I-395 to U.S. Route 1A east to Ellsworth. In Ellsworth, take Route 3 to Mount Desert Island.

Visitor centers
- Hulls Cove Visitor Center: Daily, 8:30AM - 4:30PM. Our summer season serving visitors at the Hulls Cove Visitor Center typically spans from the first week of May to the end of October. During winter months, typically the end of October into early May, visitor information is hosted at the Bar Harbor Chamber of Commerce, 2 Cottage St., corner of Cottage and Main.
- Sieur de Monts Nature Center: Daily, 9:00AM - 5:00PM. Sieur de Monts Nature Center is open 9 am to 5 pm June 14 through Oct 12, 2026.

Getting around
Most parks are best seen by car. Fill up before you enter, since gas inside parks is limited or absent. Parking at popular trailheads fills early in summer.
